Hartecs were engaged as the project manager for the concept and detail design for the creation of a central visitor hub for the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens & Zoo and a state-of-the-art new animal welfare operations centre for the Zoo.
Stage 1 of the project addressed relocating the existing entrance to the Rockhampton Zoo as it is currently constrained by nearby trees of significance and existing animal enclosures, inhibiting the ability to provide a landmark entrance and gathering space.
Stage 2 provided a new facility for the Zoo as the existing buildings are approaching their end of life and inhibit any future growth or diversification of the zoological collection.
Our role included leading and managing the procurement process to appoint a principal architect and engineering team; as well as an independent technical reviewer, contract administration and project management of the principal architect through concept and detail design (two seperate projects), procurement of a construction contractor and providing construction advisory services throughout the construction period.
